About usContact usMain pageTestimonialsResources

Founded in 1998 by Marian Newell and Per Porter, Newell-Porter offers technical and business communication services to companies in West London and the Thames Valley area, cultivating long-term relationships with clients whose requirements do not justify a full-time communicator.

Publishing We produce Communicator, the quarterly journal of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC). This is a project management role, with responsibility for budgetary control, commissioning, editing, typesetting, printing and distribution. To see a sample of the publication, visit the journal page on the ISTC website.
Writing

We specialise in clear, accurate writing — from user guides to technical reference manuals to datasheets, both new documents and updates. Past projects have included:

  • A suite of structural manuals and information modules for maintenance of war cemeteries and memorials
  • User assistance for a web-based recruitment system
  • Application notes to enable customers to design and assemble printed circuit boards for an innovative range of surface-mounted devices
  • White papers describing requirements and solutions for secure messaging systems
  • Installation and operation guides for convergent communications systems
  • Leaflets describing opportunities for public involvement in forest management and use
  • User and technical support manuals for order management and purchasing modules of a comprehensive software system supporting all aspects of business operations.
We also provide writing services to other technical documentation companies, which has enabled us to work on diverse products from alarm systems to banknote sorting machines and golf aids to motorcycle servicing tools.
Editing We provide a full range of editorial checks, from the use of correct English to compliance with defined standards. We find that the Levels of Edit concept provides a useful basis for identifying the extent of editorial input appropriate to a particular document.
Proofreading Whether checking for general errors or proofing against an original, we ensure your literature is free from mistakes.
