I discussed this scene with another photographer (Paul), who used his light meter to prove that the light was too bright to record on the film he was using (Velvia). In fact, the highlights were +3.5EV above the mid-tone (the front door) and, to make matters worse, I was using a tilt-shift lens, which adds more than a stop of light fall-off at the bottom. It's a nice image though, helped by the way the reflection shows a different view of the roof-line.
