This image was inspired by researching HMS Warrior, the first 'iron-clad' warship. Sailors in the 19th Century would have been masters at reading the clouds to predict weather and wind. The advent of steam suddenly made it possible to disregard the winds and thereby broke this connection with the natural world. I wanted the sky to dominate the picture, and silhouette the marvellous complexity of the obsolete masts and rigging.
