This is geology at its finest and also most mysterious. I used to think that the processes that shaped such exotic forms were well understood, yet the books only make generalised assumptions. No-one has observed them. Actually finding a composition that made sense - or at least allows the brain to find order through repeated patterns - was a long job. I've not seen this image before.
