If you use normal scale clues, the middle ground resembles a Himalayan mountain range. Actually these features are barely bigger than a house, so self-symmetry is clearly at work here. The landscape was even deceptive when walking through it. Distant ridges were only a minute away on foot, thoroughly confounding expectations. This area is called the 'Moon Landscape'.
